FOOTPRINT
In 2019 we calculated the cost of the production of a Lambrusco bottle in terms of CO2-eq, starting from the grapes down to the bottle disposal. The result was very satisfactory: 34% lower than our competitors.
Carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).

PURIFICATION SYSTEMS
The company is constantly engaged in reducing and/or recycling waste and byproducts. The Campegine plant has implemented a system (located in a nearby agricultural estate) for the recycling of sewage sludge. The feasability of a second system is under evaluation.
The short-term goal is to enhance the circular economy through the activation of a second system for other two wine-making centers.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The commitment of the company in reducing its environmental impact started from apparently small energy efficiency measures such as LED lighning.Overall, the company in 2018 «spared» the environment 580 TEP, equivalent to a reduction of 990 tons CO2-eq.
990 tons
of CO2-eq saved thanks to energy efficiency measures in the wineries and in the production plants
RENEWABLE ENERGY
In the year 2018-2019 the Campegine plant produced 431.8 MW of electric energy through its photovoltaic system. The energy has been used in the plant, allowing the reduction of approx 193 tons of CO2-eq (emission factor considered 0.446 kg CO2-eq per KWh, source MATTM-Ispra report 303/2019).
The plant of Cantine Maschio contributed with 81,000 kWh in 2018. The feasibility of additional photovoltaic systems is under evaluation.

NO CHLORINE
The company has started up two low environmental impact projects to renew the hydro power plants with the aim to cut out chlorination.

PROTECTION OF WATER RESOURCES
Water is one of the basic element of wine production, at all stages. The company is therefore engaged in efficiency measures for water sources In some of our plants a program for recycling process waters is underway.
From 2 to 3 L
Water consumption for the production of one of our wine bottles. This achievement puts our company among the most virtuous wine companies.
RESEARCH AND PARTNERSHIPS
The company is involved in scientific research through the participation in various study projects. A research thesis on the use of vine shoot as renewable energy has been drawn up with the Engeneering Department «Enzo Ferrari» of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
